About Route 66 and Oklahoma

Oklahoma has one of the longest and most diverse stretches of Route 66 (over 400 miles), and it’s packed with classic roadside attractions, museums, neon, and quirky stops. It’s considered one of the best Route 66 states.

A list of potential stops:

  • Blue Whale of Catoosa 🐋
  • POPS 66 Soda Ranch (Arcadia)
  • Round Barn (Arcadia)
  • Tulsa - Route 66 signage, art deco buildings
  • National cowboy museum  - OKC
  • OKC - milk bottle building, gold dome, tower theater, stockyards city
  • National Route 66  museum (Elk City)
  • Service stations, cafes - Hydro, Stroud, Miami, Wellston
  • Oklahoma Route 66 museum - Clinton
  • "Neon Hunting"  Stroud, other cities

Our immediate thoughts on Route 66 through Oklahoma

Good things

You can only do so much research before you set out on a journey like travelling the entirety of  Route 66. We are setting out with a list of things we want to see, but much of the success of these things is the opportunity to trip over some great surprises, and hopefully they are good surprises.

Not so good things

Every trip has some things that don't go as anticipated, and some of those are things that you really can't change - we will no doubt encounter some of those, and will leave a note on this site of what those were.

What you have to see when you do this

Everyone has favorite things in travel, and we will share ours and perhaps they will be your favorite things too.
