California - desert kitsch and historic nostalgia
Mojave Desert & Amboy: Mojave National Preserve. Roy's Motel and Café in Amboy
Elmer’s Bottle Tree Ranch (Oro Grande)
Barstow & Victorville: California Route 66 Museum in Victorville and the historic Harvey House in Barstow.
San Bernardino & Rialto: Wigwam, First Original McDonald's Museum.
Rancho Cucamonga: restored Cucamonga Service Station
Pasadena & Los Angeles: The route passes the historic Aztec Hotel and follows Colorado Blvd
Santa Monica Pier: The official end of the road marked by a "Will Rogers Highway" plaque and the "Last Stop Shop"
Flooding and road projects affect sections of R66 through San Bernadino County.
Original end of Route 66 was 7th Street and Broadway in downtown LA.

You can only do so much research before you set out on a journey like travelling the entirety of Route 66. We are setting out with a list of things we want to see, but much of the success of these things is the opportunity to trip over some great surprises, and hopefully they are good surprises.
Every trip has some things that don't go as anticipated, and some of those are things that you really can't change - we will no doubt encounter some of those, and will leave a note on this site of what those were.
Everyone has favorite things in travel, and we will share ours and perhaps they will be your favorite things too.
